Re: Robert Johnson and the devil.
If he started playing guitar in the late 20s and didn't record any music until 1936, that leaves him about 7 years to learn his craft. Judging by the length of the mans fingers in that photo, he definately had the freakishly long fingers that help play guitar! Couple physical assets with a 7 year practice session that explains any sort of supperior guitar talent! Reference the length of his fingers from knuckle to tip with the distance of his eyes! LONG!!!
Also - musicians dying on our around the age of 27 is pretty typical, see Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Kobain...etc.
I think like many artisitc minds, his depth of emotion was more then his fragile mind could take. What made him great at what he did also made him prone to depression (the blues...) and his trade brought him into circles where acceptable levels of alcohol and drug intake would indeed lead to death by poisoning.

Re: Robert Johnson and the devil.
I always thought that he was just a bit ahead of his time - the 'deal with the devil' thing really is an interesting marketing gimmick. How many more people came out to see him play because it was rumored that he had supernatural help with his skill??
Re: Robert Johnson and the devil.
Six hundred andn sixty six, I'm quite certain. I'm going to wikipedia now and stating it as such on his information page.
