My only experience.

This is not exactly a ghost story, but it is truly paranormal
I was 9 years old and my friends and I were playing tag in a pasture (We lived in Kansas at the time) I looked up on the ridge and saw my brother standing there - I waved, he waved back, it didn't seem like anything was wrong but I didn't feel right and I ran up the ridge to see what was up but by the time I got there he was gone.
From there I ran back to my house and my mother was just getting off of the phone, scrambling to get her things together. She told me that my brother had just been hit by a car and was in the hospital - 11 miles away. I was afraid that he was dead, and his ghost had come to visit me but he was basically okay, he had just been knocked out and had a fairly serious concussion.

I believe this one fits into the doppelganger phenomenon - when a person is in great stress (emotional/physical pain, or near death) they appear to people close to them in a way of reaching out.

Sometimes it still gets to me when I think about it - not in a scary way, just weird.

I had the same experience too before my grandfather passed away.
